Problem with kppp

Hi all,

I'm having problems trying to establish a connection to my ISP from my Linux
box at home (RH 5.1) using kppp.

When I hit 'connect' and view the progess in the log window, I can see the
connection being made (modem dials, ISP answers, my username & password are
validated ok), but then it falls over with "pppd died unexpectedly". An
investigation of /var/log/messages shows the following:

LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection terminated
Received serial link is not 8-bit clean:
Problem: all had bit 7 set to 0
Exit

I use the same modem (Banksia Wave SP56) from Windoze to the same ISP a/c
with no problems. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

- Brendon Oliver.
