|You seem to imply that setting MANPATH is a bad thing. Why?
|I need to set it to make xman work. Any other way?

It depends on which version of man you have. The one on RedHat uses
/etc/man.config as the primary path configuration method but will
honour MANPATH. /etc/man.config should be preferred. If that file
doesn't exist you may have the traditional man program in which MANPATH
is the only way.
