Linux problems

After upgrading my kernal to the ELF type/edition/whatever I have
experienced problems with PPP and some of the other utilities.

PPP does not seem to want to run. At first it returned the error "Sorry
PPP is not availible on this system" even though it was compiled in to
the kernal. Any way that error has been fixed, now when I execute my
dial in script, nothing happens, no errors, no nothing. When I do a
'ps' there is no entry for pppd.

This leads me to my next problem. "ps -aux" does not work. "ps -ax"
works just not the "-aux". I suspect this has something to do with the
error message I get when Linux boots. Something like "Broken flock()
emulation with process 70, lpd".

Any ideas?

cheers
