I've been trying to get rsynth working, without a lot of luck (which is a bit dissappointing, as I've been looking forward to getting my teeth into adding speech to elm). It compiles just fine, the dictionary (beep) is built without any problems, but it doesn't seem to produce any actual output - doing `say "hello" +v', shows that it's finding "hello" in the dictionary, and if I turn the volume up to maximum it's pretty clear that the soundcard is being initialized (more static than usual). I've tried getting it to generate .au files instead, but it produces a 24 byte file then just sits there - so it looks like it's not a problem with the soundcard (which works fine with other stuff). Are there any known problems with rsynth and Linux? I'm using rsynth 2.0 with beep 0.5. The machine is running Red Hat 3.0.3 with 1.3.81, and the soundcard is an Aztech SoundGalaxy 16 "Washington" (I use it as an SB Pro under Linux, which works OK). -- Matt McLeod System Administrator Hunter Network Association
