Ian. If as you say, you remember the days when you simple couldn't afford an XT with 256K of memory, and full highth 10M HD cost U$800, you may remember the sleepless nights fighting the *stupid* commands and switches of DOS 2.11.(I still have a 360K disk with it). Few days ago I joined the Linux group after removing *the most expensive computer virus* namely, Chicago, or Windows 95, or Windows 4.0, or DOS 7.0, depending on which file you ask. Of course as a novice to new system I felt comletely helpless, nothing made sense and few nights were spent before the screen. But I felt like 10 years ago, fighting the machine to perform to my orders and having the previous experience could appreciate what it was doing. So do not put it to garbage yet. Now to your question. If you set your Linux on a drive together with DOS the FDISK.COM would remove a non-DOS partition which later you can assign as extended DOS recovering this space. Do a good backup, just in case. If you are using two HD drives, as I do, backup to the second drive, it is much faster than diskettes or tape. Let me know how it went. Have a happy new year. Stanislaw.
