If you take a look in the source of most styles (the letter style comes to mind...), you will find the defs you look for in the \ps@* macros (where * is plain, empty, headings, etc.) In short, you should redefine the macros \@oddfoot and \@evenfoot to contain whatever you want the foot of the page to have. In your special problem (lowering the default page number position), you could simply increase \footskip . In the letter environment, I find the line \footskip 25pt so putting '\footskip 50pt' in the preamble would lower the footer aproximatelly 1 cm. You could also put '\advance\footskip 1cm' in the preamble. Now my question is: Leslie made the nice macros \markright and \markboth to change the HEADERS! Why the h*ll didn't he do something similar for the footers???? -- !+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++! !
