Boy, it's been a painfully slow news week. The reason for the lack of
updates is not because of how busy I've been, but there has been noth-
ing going on!
We have changed the "Meet the Wrestling Gazette Staff" below to "Ask
The Wrestling Gazette Staff". Here is where we will answer any quest-
ions you may have, be it about your favorite wrestler or promotion.
Both the WWF and WCW have been doing incredible business, with both
almost selling out every televised program they do,and with WCW sell-
ing out their last 13 shows! Incredible!
It looks like there is a lot of heat backstage in WCW.Apparently, most
midcarders don't want to job to Bill Goldberg out of fear that it may
lower them to glorified jobber status. Also, apparently Chris Benoit
is upset with the number of jobs he has had to do lately and may be
given the US title to appease him.
More from the WCW hotline: Mark Madden is reporting that Steven Reg-
al and Dave Taylor have reached agreements with the WWF. Mike Tenay
is reporting that Madusa will not return to wrestling, as she married
Cincinnatti Bengals player Ken Blackman.
We have a lot of news on Jeff Jarrett and his thoughts on returning
to his old gimmick, as well as Yokozuna's status with the WWF at our
web site at <http://www.Wrestlinginc.com> . Make sure you check it
out now before it is updated with a new report.
Bob Ryder has joined the nWo hotline. He will be updating the hotline
every Monday night at midnight. We have more on this at our web site
as well.
Ratings for this Monday night saw Raw score an impressive 3.5 and Ni-
tro score an incredible 5.0! In contrast, around last year it was
Nitro bringing in ratings around a 3.5 while Raw was lingering around
a 2.0-2.5. My, how wrestling is growing.
For those of you living around Denver, try picking up a copy of the
Colorado School of Mines's Oredigger newspaper which I write for.Next
month I will be writing a major article on professional wrestling.
Also,Spring Stampede will be held April 19th in Denver and Nitro will
be held on April 20th in Colorado Springs. Tickets go on sale this
weekend for both event. I am planning on attending both events and
am thinking about having a pre-Stampede and pre-Nitro party at a loc-
al restaurant. For those of you in the Denver area, e-mail me at
<rgiri@mines.edu> if you are interested in attending.
While WrestleMania is looking like an impressive card, one has to won-
der how good the quality of the matches will be.The three top matches
all have injured workers, those being Owen Hart, Shawn Michaels, and
The Undertaker. Michaels complained about a back spasm after giving
Steve Austin a superkick recently on Raw. Michaels, Hart and the
Undertaker are said to be wrestling cautious matches which could aff-
ect the quality of the matches and the pay per view.
Here is some news on Afa's upcoming cards from J.C. Bauer:
I have just been informed by Afa the Wild Samoan that the Friday,
March 13th Wappinger Falls, New York WSWF Television taping has been
canceled. All tickets will be honored the night before in Yonkers at
the Yonkers Raceway. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Yonkers
show as it will be a barn burner! For more information feel free to
contact <JCBauer@WrestlingInc.com>.
For those of you even close to the Yonkers area, make sure you attend.
Wrestling Inc. is a sponsor of the event, and those of you who want
more information on it,check out the website for it at Wrestling Inc.
Also, I think the trivia questions are too easy so this time I am
going to do a tough one. The last question had over 300 entries. For
those of you who don't know, Sting fought Hulk Hogan once as a heel
on Hogan's "Thunder in Paradise" show. From now on we will list the
first five people who get the question right in the newsletter and
those five people get a free Wrestling Inc. e-mail account! The ques-
tion for this week is "Why is hour 1 of Raw called 'Raw is War' while
hour 2 is called 'The Warzone'?" Submit all answers to Ricky Giri at
<rgiri@mines.edu> .
Finally, for those of you wanting to order "The Greatest WWF matches
of all time", time is running out. All the info you need is at the
latest news page at Wrestling Inc. <http://www.WrestlingInc.com>
Until next time!
Ricky Giri

>So, where does this "NwO turning their back on Hollywood Hogan" deal
>go? I've heard a bunch of stuff, how the NwO was going to turn their
>back on Hogan after he lost to Savage at Uncensored, stuff like that,
>and I was just wondering.
>
>Also, who is that big guy that is following Raven around now?
>James L. Gilstrap
The big guy with Raven is Ron Reiss, who wrestled in WCW as Ron Studd
and the Yeti. As far as the whole nWo deal, I wouldn't be surprised
if Eric Bischoff doesn't know exactly where it's going. One of the
major reasons that WCW is so successful is because of their on the
fly booking and angles. We'll just have to stay tuned.
>Can you believe that Vince McMahon said that business for the WWF is
>better after Bret Hart left?!!!
>Bill Koehler
Actually, strange as it is, it's true. When Bret Hart was in the WWF,
Raw rarely broke a 3.0 rating. Since Hart left the WWF, Raw has yet
to fall below a 3.0.Meanwhile pay per view buy rates are up and house
show attendance (even in Canada) is higher than it has been in about
ten years! Even "No Way Out", which was poorly hyped, received a 0.8
buy rate, which is pretty high.
