Lately the line has been hanging up on me.

Before that I used to regularly lose one or all of the servers, the
news server, the mail server, or name server.  They would just stop
responding.

Sometimes during a telnet session through best, the session freezes.
I hang up, log on through another service, and I see that I am still
logged on.  This shows that the freeze up did not occur in the
telephone system -- best's computers think I am still logged on, so
plainly the freeze up is in best's system, not in the modems or phone
lines.  The fact that sometimes one best server freezes up and another
does not shows the same thing.
