Best Internet is the WORST! Who should I switch to???

I am fed up with the PATHETIC service from Best Internet.
Not a day goes by that my connectivity through them is disconnected,
or fails to connect for an hour, or the mail server is braindead,
or a flood of transmittion errors...

For those who are looking for a provider, DO NOT CHOOSE BEST!

For those who have a more trustworthy provider, who should I switch
to?

Best Internet made the selling point that they would manage
their growth to assure top quality for their customers. They
have FAILED to keep this promise. If I want broken promises and
groundless claims of performance, I'll vote for Clinton instead.

What local provider is competetive in price and provides TRULY
RELIABLE service?

Thanks in advance

Wait a minute -- isn't this like having your cake and eating it?

The short answer is none over the long period. Some you will find are
wonderful -- right up until they either increase their prices or their
service declines. Others you will find terrible just as soon as your
friends recommend them and sign up.

As Pink Floyd put it: Welcome my friend. Welcome to the Machine.....

You might as well have your checks direct deposited into SteveCase@aol.com

Seriously, some other ISPs I have heard of that seem ok are rahul.net,
wco.com, and kudonet.com ... you may want to check them out.

Mark,

Give Bay Area Internet Solutions a try. I strongly recommend them, they
are not the largest ISP in the bayarea, but they are certainly committed
to quality service. I'm a very satisfied customer. Before BAIS, I
tried several other providers that I prefer not to mention by name, but
since I switched to BAIS it has been solid connectivity and support.

Interesting... is it just me, or does a lot of this sound like a
phone line / modem problem.

Does it have to be a local provider? Many national providers have
local access numbers. I've had good service from Concentric Network.
Check them out at http://www.concentric.net.

Don't bother. They are among the worst. Slow connects, no connects
etc. I'm STILL looking. Been through AT&T, PacBell, Concentric,
AbleCom.

Hmm... I was just chatting with best tech support on another matter,
and connection problems came up. In essence, they don't trust
PacBell. From another BBS I am on, it took them weeks of complaints
to get someone from PacBell to show up and find the fault causing
their connectivity problems.
Otoh, PacBell will tell you its all your modem's fault.
Actually, I did fiddle and tweek with my modem. Then I got a new
one. I'm much happier now :) If I have a problem that persists for
only a day, or a few hours (which happens fairly reglarly) I assume
Best is spazzing. If it goes on for days or weeks, it seems to be
resolved by an outside agency (PacBell, SGI, or myself)

It seems that most Telco's have policies that prohibit them from
owning up to problems with their equipment. Time and time and time
again, I have reported phone line problems; the Telco tells me
everything checks out fine but, an hour or two later, the problem
magically disappears.

It's happened to me just too many times now.

I also recommend that you lie and report the issue as a FAX
problem. Telco's hate modems and will just give you a long lecture
on how they don't guarentee more than 1.25 bits per second. OTOH,
fax machines don't incorporate modems do they? :-)
