My niece and her significant other are looking for work at a zoo
or in a wildlife position.

Both are college graduates with bio/zoology degrees. Both have
around two years experience at a relatively small zoo in a midwest town.
Perhaps from that experience, both seem to me to be excellent with people.

They'd like to move to a bigger city and a more established zoo or
similar position. When I say "similar position," that means just about
anything related to the handling of animals, so long as it pays something.
For example, I've got to dig out the location of the excellent mailing
list of animal rehab workers I briefly subscribed to in an effort to help
my niece when she graduated from college.

What advice can you give me to pass on to them? I'd welcome
suggestions concerning possible positions, possible things they should be
doing to look for positions, and internet resources such as newsgroups and
sites and listservs. Those are just suggestions. Please tell me about
anything you think might be relevant.

Please don't hesitate to tell me very elementary things you'd
think I'd already know. I'm a non-scientist who has subscribed to this
list for a long time simply because what I do often touches on
environmental matters. "Lurking" on this list has been an immense help to
me.

You might consider emailing me directly rather than to the list
because this request is at least somewhat off-topic.

Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide, and my
apologies to our outstanding moderator Dr. Inouye and to all of you for
a post not on the primary thrust of this mailing list.
