Claire Gilbert wrote in response to an earlier message on OISM from
Christine Cline in the City of Salt:

The Oregon Institute, from what Chris says below, is an entrpreneural
organization of researchers. It is not the same as the Marshall
organization, which is funded to advance certain ideologies.

I have had experience with an M.D. on the staff of the Orgeon Institute
and
he is has no ideological axe to grind.

(snippage deleted)

I would venture a guess that the two researchers associated with the
Oregon
Intstitue that signed on to the CO2 paper were funded by ideological
backers, most likely from the fossil fuel industry.

(Please refer back to Christine's original message for details)

I respond:

I visited the OISM site and I do not find it to be innocuous. There are two
important aspects to this site that disturb me and make me think that there
is a strong political and environmental agenda being served here. First,
check out their "Civil Defense" archive (there's a link provided). There
are a number of these items that refer to some very anti-environmental
issues of their newletters. I think these are worth checking out.

I also followed a link to a home schooling project they produced. There's
a link to "robinsoncurriculum" that is selling a 22 CD program for home
schooling. This may be kind of neutral but there's also a link within the
robinsoncurriculum page called "Ann's Corner" that leads to Bob Jones
University and some very conservative and religiously oriented home
schooling materials. There are no links to "secular" home schooling
pages.

When you put these two factors together (home schooling and civil
defense) you begin to get a picture of a politico-religious agenda. I
generally eschew guilt by association but there is definitely something
here that sends up some red flags.. at least, to me.
