A project a team I'm in is working on for a local middle school is
utilizing a consistent frame layout, a white page (with shadow) on an
aqua background. Accidentally selecting the white page while putting on
text and graphics and grouping them has becoming quite annoying; is
there no equivalent of "locking" a background as in MacDraw, must one
write code as Ms. Phipps described? (If so, could that be copied to go
with every screen?)
And is there an address for MacroMedia to send suggestions of this nature
to (allow "locking" of backgrounds or other elements, or even providing
multiple layers, as in HyperCard)? (Come to think of it, does anyone have
an E-Mail address for Microsoft? I would like to make a number of
suggestions to them regarding the new Word [it has dispensed with many
features I found convenient and valuable in WinWord 2.0b, and slowed the
program down to a *crawl*--it was obviously designed for both Pentium and
Power PC machines; although drag-and-drop text editing is probably worth
it, my 386 feels dead in the water while simply saving.])
And could anyone share their philosophy regarding learner-assessment on
moveable-object activities? My inclination is not to assess for this
type of activity, but how can one evaluate the instruction without
assessing learning?

Subject: Movable Displays in Libraries
A group I am working with has created an application that
utilizes a display screen containing test questions. This
display is used 20+ times, so we put it in a library. When the
users encounter this test screen they answer the questions
using movable object responses.
The problem occurs when they are using the mouse to move the
responses. Often, they accidentally move the text on the
library screen instead. I tried to break the rules and make
the display screen not movable (Movable@"Test Questions" :=
FALSE), but of course this does not work because the display is
in the library. Is my only option to take the display out of
the library, re-name it 20 different times, and make each
display not movable? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gina Phipps
