World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters

                     Membership Information

AMARC is an international non-governmental organisation serving
the community radio movement. It has two membership categories:
Voting Members and Associate Members.

                         VOTING MEMBERS

VOTING MEMBERS are community radio stations, federations and
associations of community radio stations, production groups, and
groups working towards the establishment of community radio. They
are in agreement with AMARC's Principles and contribute to the
Association's objectives.

Voting members have the right to participate in AMARC activities,
to speak and vote at meetings of the General Assembly and they
can hold elected office.

AMARC defines a COMMUNITY RADIO STATION as a station that
responds to the needs of the community which it serves and that
contributes to its development in a progressive manner promoting
social change. It promotes the democratisation of communication
by facilitating community participation in communication. This
participation may vary according to the context in which the
radio operates.

An ASSOCIATION or FEDERATION is a grouping of community radio
stations that is controlled by its membership. It can be
national, regional or international.

A PRODUCTION GROUP is a not for profit group or association with
a democratic participatory structure, or an association of such
groups, which operates in an area where there is no community
radio station and/or which produces community radio programs for
broadcast on radio stations other than community stations or on
more than one community station.

A GROUP working toward the establishment of community radio can
include a group that is working to establish a single station, or
a group that provides support services to other groups.

Voting members receive InteRadio and other general information
disseminated by AMARC at no charge. They are eligible for
discounts on other AMARC publications.

Voting members are listed in AMARC's membership directory, unless
they request not to be included.

                       ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS are individuals, groups or organisations who
are in agreement with AMARC's Principles and contribute to the
Association's objectives.

Associate members have the right to participate in AMARC
activities. They have the right to speak at meetings of the
General Assembly but cannot vote or hold elected office.

Associate members receive InteRadio and other general information
disseminated by AMARC at no charge. They are eligible for
discounts on other AMARC publications.

Associate members are listed in AMARC's membership directory,
unless they request not to be included.

                      APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Annual fees for voting members fees are US$30 for radio stations
and groups and US$150 for associations or federations. Annual
fees for associate members of AMARC are US$20.

Members in Latin America and Europe can receive additional
services from their regional offices by paying a modest service
charge. In Latin America an annual membership, including the
service charge, costs US$50 for both voting and associate
members. In Europe, an annual membership, including the service
charge, costs US$60 for voting members and US$50 for associate
members. Contact your regional office for further information.

Fees are payable January 1 of each year. Fees may be reduced or
waived on appeal to the Secretariat.

AMARC's Membership Committee studies all membership applications
and accepts new members on a conditional basis. The decisions of
the Committee are subject to ratification by the General
Assembly.

In order to facilitate networking among them, we would like to
have as much information as possible about our members. We would
be pleased to receive any documentation you may have about your
organisation or your work. Newsletters, photographs, technical
and training manuals, cassettes, and program schedules will be
put in our Documentation Centre.
