CHANNELS FOR CHANGE: Alternative television and video production
from around the world.

October 17-20, 1994 in Edinburgh, Scotland

Channels for Change is hosting an international event on community
and local television and video and film making. The event will
profile the alternative sector and develop further the emerging
networks for the advancement of local and democratic TV and video
production. It will be a working conference to focus debate on
projects in the realm of public service television and local video
both to respond to new developments in the broadcast market and to
allow space for the planning of democratic alternatives to
dominating commercial satellite agendas in the Murdoch mould.

The objectives of Channels for Change will be to gain information
on how local media sectors work in different countries; to share
experiences and ideas of producing and distributing alternative TV
and video in local, national and international contexts for
broadcast, narrowcast, satellite and non-broadcast; to organize
working groups for media projects and strategies in co-production
and distribution.

Channels for Change follows on from the ideas and projects
developed in meetings of existing networks such as ZEBRA and
Videazimut, and at The Next Five Minutes Conference (Amsterdam,
February 1993) which explored the notion of Tactical Television.

The participants will be local programme makers, distributors,
broadcasters, journalists, media educationalists, development
agencies and NGO representatives. Speakers have been invited from
Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Hungary, South Africa, the United Kingdom
and the USA.
