My name is Wally Bowen and I am executive director of Citizens for
Media Literacy in Asheville, N.C. We teach young people how to think
critically about TV and advertising and mass media in general. We
also work to provide citizen access to the media.

I will be in the San Francisco area from July 18-25, and I am interested in
meeting with progressive foundations in the area which might be
interested in funding some of our projects. We currently are
developing a second instructional comic book for teens and
adolescents. This second comic will examine how media images
affect the self-esteem of adolescent girls. We are also developing
a citizenship and media curriculum for secondary schools.

And we are seeking funding to help put our first comic book,
entitled "Get A Life!", into a second printing.

I would appreciate any thoughts you might have on contacts inthe Bay Area.
Many thanks! Wally Bowen
