The original concept as money as a motivator appears to me to be valid in
spite of Dr. Deming's contrary belief. I think everyone that has worked
under such a system agrees with it, while the philosophers amongst us oppose
it.

Why work 100 hour weeks if your collegues work 40 for the same compensation?
I work to live, not live to work. The wall is down, comrades, and pooled
compensations should have also been repudiated.

It's five o'clock on Friday, and it's been a long week. Forget the last
account or client, I'm going home. Why do one more when I have no incentive
to do so? I believe that the entire work force (sales, manufacturing, e.g.)
will sink to the lowest denominator, that is, the least productive member of
the work force, without reasons to excel. Money, or pay for work, is a very
strong motivator.
