Our local Chapter of the RED CROSS just as in any other chapter of the red
cross who has TRAINED Damage Assessment personnel all have a guide and
protocols that have to be followed. Yes we do a preliminart Damage
Assessment within the first 24 hours and then a Detailed Damage Assessmetn
within the next 72 hours, sometimes it takes a little longer, depending on
how many volunteers you have to work with.

I have never heard of someone doing a damage assessment and then throwing it
away and paking up and leaving. Thats not what hte red cross is about. The
Red Cross is about people helping people, its been that way since its
beginnings.

Also, no matter what Red Cross chapter you go to, the training should be the
same, due to the fact you never know when a neighboring red cross may need a
hand and it puts al the volunteers on the same sheet of music.

One more note on the red cross, each chapter is run individually, so just
because one chapter is having problems, doesn't mean that the entire Red
Cross in America is having problems.

Do not let us forget, if we are uneducated so is the general public,
education is the most valuable tool you will ever have when it comes to
meterology.
