What I meant by ASCII file system is a file system which interprets pathnames
as ASCII, and, in particular, which interprets certain octet values in such
pathnames in a particular way (not arbitrarily). In the case of UNIX and
Plan 9, they employ a file system which interprets NUL, PERIOD ('.'), and
SOLIDUS ('/') in special ways when interpreting path names.
