Guys I'm using Toast 3.55 on a 8600/250/256 with 4 devices on the internal SCSI-2 bus and 4 devices on the external SCSI. The Cd-R (Panasonic) is on the exernal along with a UMAX 1200S, a EZ135 Syquest and a 1Gb IBM HD. Didn't get any problem so far. Please check you don't have the CP (or extension) provided with Toast that turns your CD-R to a "regular CD player". Haven't you installed Direct-CD too? I didn't. Needless to say you need to have the shortest and thickest SCSI cable you can find. Check also your gear is not on a polyamide carpet and that all your external devices are correctly grounded to the same ground reference you Mac power supply is. External SCSI is *NOT* differential and *HATE* ESD's. This can help!
