Platform independent error messages:



1."load: class <class name in all caps> not found" 

In your html code when you specify the class name, you must enter the class 
name in quotes. Case is important. 



2.What does it mean when Java WorkShop says "Applet not initialized" 



Most likely you did not declare your class to be public. 



3.javac allows me to write something like 






        try
                connection.close();
        catch(Exception e){}







the workshop compiler forced me to rewrite it as 


        try{
                connection.close();
        }catch (Exception e) {}







The newer JDK's enforce this as well. The language folks decided to force 
brackets around try statements. 





Windows 95 specific error messages:



�When I enter jws, I get the following message: 

JWS caused an invalid page fault in module JAVAI.DLL at 0137:10111ec5. 



This is an installation problem that can occur when older versions of Java 
have not been deleted. Usually it means that CLASSPATH is referencing the 
"wrong" JDK. 





Windows NT specific error messages:



�No error messages were available at the time of this writing. Stay tuned. 



Solaris specific error messages:



�When I enter jws, I get the following message:
"Motif library .../lib/libXm.so.3 not found" . 

The Java WorkShop requires Motif 1.2.3 libraries to be installed. The Java 
WorkShop was not able to locate those libraries. Enter the following to see 
if they are installed: 




pkginfo -l SUNWmfrun 




If VERSION: is "1.2.3", then the problem is that your environment variable 
LD_LIBRARY_PATH doesn't include /usr/dt/lib. 



Otherwise, install the Motif 1.2.3 libraries.
