Beta Testers Wanted!
I'm currently in the final development/testing stages on a MS-Windows
Caller-ID application. I'd like to get a few Beta Testers who are
willing to install the program and run it for a while to get the last
of the kinks out. After a beta-test period, this program will be made
available via share-ware (30 day evaluation, $35-$40 registration fee).

Program Features:
***** Anonymous Call Blocking
- User selectable
- When a "Private" call comes in - if the "Block Anonymous Calls" flag
is set, then the program will instruct the modem to go off-hook, wait
one second, and then go back on-hook. This will hang up on the
anonymous caller.
***** Setting System Time
- User selectable
- Since the CID data has the time in it - and the time is set by the
telephone switch (usually an accurate source of time), then you
have a way to keep your system time up to date with every phone call
you receive.
***** Caller Database
- Actual Name (in mixed case letters, as opposed to the all-upper-case
CID data)
- Ghost Numbers (for calls originating from a PBX for example, where
caller's number is not necessarily the number shown in the CID data).
- Paging Options
- Page with the caller's number, or
- Page with a selected string of digits
- Call logging/history
- If you don't wish for the call to appear in the Active List or
be logged to the Call Log file (you will still be paged when they
call, if you have the pager set up and enabled). The call will be
displayed for 30 seconds and then the call record will be deleted.
- Number of times the caller has called (user-resetable)
- The last time the caller called (user-resetable)
- Call blocking
- If you don't wish for this person to even be able to leave an
answering machine message, they can be blocked - such that when
they call, the modem will go off-hook, wait one second, and then
go right back on-hook - i.e. hanging up on them.
- Call Disposition
- Pass-thru - No extra actions taken
- Beep - A selected beep sound can be played
- Announce - A selected .wav file can be played
- Execute a script - A selected batch file can be executed
- Caller Database - Data Import
- You can have your Database program of choice generate an ASCII text
file with the CDB entries in it and then have CIDMan application
import the information into the Caller Database.
***** Pager Interface
- Out of area calls paged (if selected) as "000"
- Private calls paged (if selected) as "999"
- All calls can be paged (even calls from non-Caller Database callers)
- Selected calls can be paged (only those calls in the CDB and who
have the "page" flag set)
***** External Comm Programs
- No need to exit the program when you wish to use your modem for an
external communication program
- When program execution is complete, the modem is re-engaged to capture
CID data
***** Dialing Directory
- All names/numbers in the Caller Database are given in a popup screen
and their number can be dialed in one of four ways:
- Local 7-digit call
- Local 10-digit call (Dallas/Fort-Worth has 214/817 metro numbers)
- 1+Long Distance
- Prefixed Long Distance (where you specify a long distance prefix
(such as 10288 for AT&T).
- Lookup number - enter a phone number, associated CDB name is shown
***** No CID-ready Modem required!
- Supports CID modems (tested only on Zyxel 1496 and Zyxel Elite 2864,
but should run fine with any other CID modem).
- No expensive CID modem required though! Buy a relatively cheap
($100) device that reads the CID data from the telephone line and
passes it to the program.
- Use an additional standard (i.e. non-CID) modem to get all the
benefits above like Paging, Call Block, Call Back, Dialing
Directory, etc. *** NOTE *** Using the non-modem CID device and
an alternate non-CID modem as described requires TWO serial comm
ports - one for the CID device and one for the modem. Still about
half the price of a CID-compatible modem.

System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows 3.1 (not ported to Windows-95 yet)
4Mb memory
2Mb disk space
CID capture Device (either a CID-capable modem or a non-modem CID
device)
Optional non-CID modem if non-modem CID device is used.
Caller-ID from your phone company
Given that this is an application that captures real-time CID data
the CID device - your computer must be on for the program to be of
any benefit.

Beta Tester Requirements:
- E-mail access (all requests to become a beta tester must come to me
via e-mail). All bugs that you find, or enhancements you suggest
should come in via e-mail.
- You must have, or be willing to obtain at your own expense, a CID
device (either a modem or the non-CID device, obtainable through
me).
- A willingness to use the program and report bugs that you find. I
will also welcome all suggestions for improvements that you may
have.
- Some intuitive nature to you. There exists no on-line help right now
(that's what I'm working on currently) - so you have to be able to
figure out some of the features (it's not hard or complicated, I
promise).
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Beta Tester Benefits:
- A registered copy of the final version of the program
- Any other perks that I can think of.
- My thanks.

So, if you're interested and willing to beta-test this program (which,
I have to say, I think is a pretty cool program) - please send e-mail
to me at exukev@exu.ericsson.se (this is a work mail account - in no
way is this program associated with Ericsson, other than the fact that
they keep me occupied with their own agenda and projects for the 60
hours a week when I'm here at work :-).
