Eudora Pro & Newswatcher crashing on Save As

I am running a Duo 2300c with system 7.5.5. I use FreePPC to connect to my
provider. This combination has worked fine until....

I installed Mac OS 8, but had a series of relatively minor problems which
have proved so inconvenient that I have abandoned it to return to 7.5.5.

Somehow, in mucking about with OS 8, I seem to have screwed up my internet
setup so that Eudora and Newswatcher now crash on me when I try to do a
Save As. Is there some common denominator between the two that would lead
to this? I don't see it as a conflict with PPC because things worked fine
before I tried OS 8. Further, for a while things continued to work fine
*after* I installed OS 8. So I don't think that the problem is with OS 8,
despite my other irritations with it.

I've tried replacing the Eudora program and the Eudora Folder. I have not
tried anything with Newswatcher.

Any suggestions?
