I think your BIOS supports PnP, right ?

The BIOS assigns the resources (IRQ, DMA, I/O ports..) to the PnP card
after the Power Up Self Test (POST). Part of the PnP standard is the
DOS ICU (Interrupt Config., Utility) that allows you to *reassign* PnP
resources. This has to be done only once. The PnP config is stored in
an EEPROM on the board and is used (if the BIOS does not detect new
hardware) at the next boot of the system.

Does your Bios detect the modem (message: 'detect: PnP modem ...')
What about your other ports ? Do they still work if the modem is
detected ?

good luck

P.S.: my PnP modem works fine. The PnP bios detected my other com
ports and assigned COM3 to the modem. Since I am not running a PnP-OS
(Windows NT) I have told NT to look for the modem on COM3. The same
should work under Linux.
