I am using RH 6.2 and ipchains with IP MASQ to provide internet access to several PC's on my home network. However when one or more people are downloading a file, access for everyone else becomes very slow. Is there a way of limiting bandwidth (or priority or similar) for individual PC's on the network to allow everyone a fair go? Regards, Graham Daniell

Hi Well if your PC is fast enough to run a proxy http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Bandwidth-Limiting-HOWTO/ Its nice and simple to follow through... I tried bandwidth limiting once -- it began to get annoying when u could only download at 10Kb/s when you are the only person using the DSL connection. But that is my oppinion, Dial up might be different... cheers Graham Daniell wrote: > I am using RH 6.2 and ipchains with IP MASQ to provide internet > access to several PC's on my home network. > > However when one or more people are downloading a file, access for > everyone else becomes very slow. > > Is there a way of limiting bandwidth (or priority or similar) for > individual PC's on the network to allow everyone a fair go? > > Regards, > Graham Daniell

Delay pools allows you to limit for example the bandwidth usage after it has downloaded e.g the first 64kbytes of a file or whatever value you set. However it is only useful for requests using the squid proxy server. Karun

the linux 2.4 kernels (not RH6.2) have loadbancing features, the new iproute2 tools have ways of dividing the available bandwith in classes. This is described in the advanced routing howto's goodluck.
