Hi there, I have a serious problem getting an ISDN link up and running on RH 6.1. My system is as follows: Pentium 200MMX, 64Mb RAM Kernel 2.2.13 compiled with HiSax NetJet drivers as part of the kernel. (Siemens chip-set) Problem is that I can not even get the link started. There is a dial-up script and a semi-permanent link script from the vendor of the card. When running these scripts nothing happens. An error is reported like: File not found. It is as if the file is not seen or not able to run. I think something is missing in my setup. I have also installed the isdn4-utils (Latest) but have no idea of what to do next. Documentation seems very spread out and in-coherent. Is there a step by step guide on how to get things going? The steps should include every thing from (After) the point of compiling the utilities and kernel. I want a machine which is a mail server as well as a firewall between the internal network and the internet via an ISDN link. Please give some pointers to a lost sole.... Anthony

I thought compile was absolutely neacesary. Anyway I did get things to work...it was something totally stupid. The script file that I got from the Traverse site went via a Win machine and had lots of nice ^M characters in it:-( Scripts do not like that. After cleaning them up all was fine. Documentation for Isdn4linux could be better, but you should check out the FAQ at http://www.isdn4linux.de an Paul Slootmans's page at http://www.wurtel.demon.nl/i4l-howto-uk.html Basically, just get these for steps right and you're off. Alternative, use Suse linux or kde's isdn-tool or RH's built-in scripts ? 1. Insert the hisax module: (see /usr/src/linux/Documentation/isdn/README.HiSax) 2. Set ISDN parameters in kernel with isdnctrl. (see man isdnctrl) 3. run ifconfig to configure net-device (see man ifconfig) 4. run ipppd (man ipppd) If you run into trouble with one of these steps, ring back and we look somewhat further, Greetzzz, jos

If you have a Traverse card they have a step by step guide on their website (www.traverse.com.au). However, I didn't like their method particularly as it didn't fit in well with the RH system of doing things. I found rh-isdn-conf-0.53-3 and rh-isdn-0.53-3, installed them on the RH6.0 system. You may not need to do this on RH6.1 as it seems to include the ISDN utilities and perhaps supports ISDN ippp devices. I didn't have to compile the utilities or the kernel. tom@interact.net.au

RH61 includes the isdn tools so I should go and upgrade the system - then the kernel and utilties will match. tom@interact.net.au
