2nd PCI Ethernet Card Problem
#198

Hi All,

I have a RH 5.2 machine with two D-Link DFE-530TX 10/100 card, however,
I cannot get the machine to recognise the second card.

I have successfully had either card working, but not both.

I have an "append ether=0,0,eth0 ether=0,0,eth1" in my lilo.conf

I have
alias eth0 via-rhine
alias eth1 via-rhine
in my conf.modules.

On bootup, the eth0 is initialised, but I get a
Delaying Eth1 initialization
for the eth1 interface.

Any help available ?

Greg.

Did you try the ethernet cards alone? Their IRQ, I/O numbers must be
unique.

Try to swap the ethernet devices at the append row. First the eth1 and
after this eth0 but it depends on the irq,I/O number. As I remeber we had
the same problem with ne2000 cards. Put the first place that card which
has less I/O or IRQ number ( I don't remember which one ). I hope this
will help.

You should only have to put the second eth1 in the lilo.conf file
append = "ether=0,0,eth1"

is what I have for 2 cards :) (there are different ones however)

A response on this recently was:
"You may have to set the options for the module. On one of the computers

I look after has 2 ne2000 cards. /etc/conf.modules looks like this:

alias eth0 ne
alias eth1 ne
options ne io=0x300,0x340 irq=5,9

i.e. specify the options for both cards on the one options line. "

My firewall has 2 different net cards, conf.modules has:

alias eth0 ne
options eth0 io=0x280
alias eth1 eexpress
options eth1 io=0x300
