ppp dial up script problems

Hello all,

I am trying to set up my linux box for dial out ppp connection to my
ISP, my providor has dynamic IP allocation and does not prompt me for
login or password, i have set up my modem and tested it using minicom
and it connects ok (the pc speaker makes pretty sounds etc),
then i see garbage on the screen, so this is working.
When i try to connect using pppd my log says that connect script has
failed. I have heard that a script for this type of ISP is easy but
I have no experience, could anyone help me with this ?
maybe a sample script or something would be nice. HELP!!

Thanks, Richard Ashton.

You know thats strange. Every system that I have dialed into using ppp had a
set of prompts going. Are you certain that when you dial into your isp using
minicom that there arent prompts like

login:
password:

and things like that ?

Yep,
you'll see garbage on the screen in minicom when the other side is trying to
get ppp happening.

The sample scripts that come with ppp version 2.2.0f which seems to be the
standard now are pretty straight forward.

Try investigating more with minicom to find out what your isp is expecting
from your end.

Check out:

I used what's on that page and it has worked like a charm.

Especially cool is that you can monitor the stuff by
doing a "tail -f /var/log/messages" while the connection
is being made.

This works for me. Two files, one to run pppd and one containing a chat
script.
The first uses the second. To log in I run monash2.ppp

amii@HouseMartin:~>> cat monash2.ppp

#!/bin/sh
/usr/sbin/pppd /dev/cua1 38400 -detach debug crtscts modem defaultroute
noipdefault connect andychat

amii@HouseMartin:~>> cat andychat

/usr/sbin/chat -v -t60 "" ATDT99265901 CONNECT "" Username: azban2
Password: yourpasswordhere ready: ppp

hope this is useful :-)
