Does anyone know where I can find out the difference between these two versions? Has anyone had any problems running 1.1d. After making a few changes to my system (installing 1.1d was one) I started getting the death screen: the one that starts with TRAP in the top left hand corner!! Any comments welcome, Hugh.

I have been running 1.1d for less than a week, but have had 3 traps in that time. I previously had 1.1b, and seldom got traps. Nothing else major has changed, BUT I been working the system fairly hard. The traps could be due to 1.1d, or they could just be as a result of high stress levels on the system; I suspect that 1.1d has something to do with it. On the other hand, 1.1d DID fix several problems (mainly printing), but is NOT bug-free. Printing problems persist. Arthur

I pruned a lot of stuff today, increased my free space and worked for some time with no traps. Hugh, I recently had problems with the WebEx 1.03 not being able to show some graphic images... It turns out, that the major visable diference between 1.03 and 1.1d is that 1.1d includes a lot more Netscape compatable options such as frames (which was the cause of my not being able to view some pictures). As far as I know, your problems stem from something other than WebEx. Before you do anything else, why don't you delete any WebEx files you might have in all directories (this doesn't include url's and html files) Then, reinstall WebEx and see if that helps. Here in comp.os.os2.apps, chcrawfo@vt.edu spake unto us, saying:

Um... Netscape frames have nothing to do with images -- frames define
the ability of the browser to split/subdivide what is normally a single
web page view into multiple independent sections, each usually updated
independently, and each optionally with its own scroll bar, etc.

I started out with 1.03, played around with it, learned its quirks, etc. I DID notice that 1.03 made HUGE swap files for no apparent reason. The more documents brought in, the worst it got. From there I went to 1.1b and IMMEDIATELY went back to 1.03. Why? Something with how it handled graphics that got re-routed on their way in... made them blurry and imcomplete. Very annoying. Swap file still got huge even though one of the READMEs said it was supposed to be fixed. Finally, I'm on to 1.1d. Much better reliability. No crashes yet. Better frame support as mentioned. And I don't care what they say about the swap file supposed to be fixed, it STILL grows huge. At least it's stable now. For fear of being shot for treason in an OS/2 group, it's a *good* browser. Wish it would do the stuff that W****** browsers would do. But, I'll give away a few points here and there to have a stable operating system. Smile. One oddity I've noticed: If you use LINKUP.EXE to launch WE (to start dialer automatically), all the files in the \TCPIP\ETC directory stay there when WE is shut down. Take LINKUP.EXE out, and WE dutifully erases them. Go figure. Make sure LINKUP.EXE is out as you'll clutter the heck out of your hard drive and wonder why you're losing all that space! So what... you got 50 cents worth. Brent

An alternative web browser that uses the WebEx DLLs contains, in its
documentation, the observation that 1.03 will be quicker at loading
pages than 1.1d will. No word as to why . . .
The responses to this post indicate varying experiences with crashes.
My experience, to augment the pool, is that I encounter no crashes
while using 1.1d (except for a very occasional web page with some
bizarre HTML that Net$cape apparently can swallow)--but I do very regularly
see a SYS3175 on exiting from 1.1d. It's not invariable, but it's probably
in the vicinity of 50% of the time. The only apparent ill effect, other
than the annoyance of dismissing the warning screen, is that the cached
temp files are usually not erased in a crash (just clean 'em up by hand).
One gathers that there's not much point in worying, as Net$cape will now
not only soon be OS/2 but (if the newspapers have got it right) will
actually come with Merlin.
