Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem?
I have Ultimail set up under OS/2 Warp (correctly as far as I can tell).
I can happily establish a SLIP connection to my service provider via the
Network Dialler app., then start up Ultimail and read any new mail (the only
problem being that I am always prompted for the mail server and password).
However, whenever I attempt to send outgoing mail (either replying to incoming
or unsolicited) it appears that the sendmail program fails to see the tcp/ip
stack and exits. Outgoing mail then ends up in the send queue.
Whenever I establish a SLIP connection, something recognises that a tcp/ip
connection has been made, and Ultimail/sendmail attempts to send the queued
messages, but it again fails ("Tcp/ip not running" or something) and sendmail
exits.
Any help would be appreciated. I believe I am running the latest Ultimail
(retrieved from the ftp site).
Thanks,
Dennis

I use WARP/Connect, so there might be a difference there too. I dunno if the WARP TCP/IP install is the same as for Connect. With mine, I selected the Selective Network Install icon in the install folder, then followed all the instructions. It is IMPORTANT when installing only the Internet kit to take the minimalist approach. Ie, if you get a settings notebook or dialogue, only fill in mandatory fields, even though reason might tell you to fill some of the others. This is VERY important. HTH

Whilst this is not a direct solution to your problem, I believe that you would
be a lot better off changing to another email program. Ultimail is a dog of a
program and many. many people have problems with it. I suggest you check out

I'm afraid I have to agree with this advice. Ultimail just doesn't work. I'm a registered PMMAIL fan too. Simon

Outgoing mail then ends up in the send queue. Let me make a wild guess: you are running Warp Connect and you did what the instructions said and installed the Internet stuff from the Warp CD rather than from the Bonus Pack CD. The trouble is with a file called AFINET.SYS and you need a new version. Point your WWW browser at http://www.voicenet.com/~jsilvia/Ultimail.html (the capital U is important) and download the fix from there. I also got PMMAIL and agree it's much better. However, before I register it, can the registered users tell me if these problems in PMMAIL are fixed in the registered version? 1. Sometimes, PMMAIL forgets to split mail messages and I end up with one message in PMMAIL that contains what should be many separate mail messages. (This happens especially when I have a few hundred mail messages waiting to be collected.) 2. Since getting the IAK updates, I can't send out long mail messages. I get a POP socket time error of some sort, and then message message doesn't get sent. 3. PMMAIL uses an incorrect algorithm to separate mail messages. Rather than looking for a "From" line with a timestamp, it just splits at any line beginning with the word "From". This can (and does) appear in the text of messages, and it's quite irritating to have messages split in the middle because of this. (Of course, Ultimail had the same problem, only worse - it just gobbled the rest of the message!) Although the above might sound a bit negative, I am actually reasonably impressed with PMMAIL. -- Bernie Maier The Internet: not so much the Information Home: blurk@wr.com.au Superhighway as a large, multi-storied, Work: blurk@ot.com.au over-crowded, Information Parking Lot.

I haven't come across any of these bugs, but on the other hand I'm not reading the quantities you are. The version of PMMAIL that is available (eg from BMT Micro) is the same whether you register it or not. We can hope, however, that the rumoured new (improved) version will appear soon. Simon PS The only problem I had with PMMAIL I fixed by using a different SMTP host - it had a minor problem talking to a VAX.
