IBM added the ability to allow MVS Hosts to act as NFS File Servers in a TCP/IP LAN environment. The major elements required to implement this function for MVS are DFP V3, DF/HSM and TCP/IP support in MVS. The theory is that MVS can now be used as a super fileserver and archive manager for all those Sun Workstations and other UNIX servers out there in TCP/IP LAN territory. We have LAN system based around Sun Servers, Apple Macs and Ethernet TCP/IP, and have begun to realise that managing the backup and archive requirements of this creation may be better controlled from the MVS Any experience in similar environment. How did it work, what other products (IBM or Third Party) did they discover, investigate to provide this type of function for a LAN from MVS. Any and all information totally appreciated.
