I've played with a few DOS/Windows based packages. You probably want to look at the SynOptics, NetManage and NAT offerings. The NetManage stuff is the most vendor independent. SynOptics has a lot of nice tools like MeterMan and MibMan which are MIB query/reporting tools. NAT has a very nice MIB walker, and provides some degree of reporting of 3rd party objects. Novell has their NSM (Netware Services Manager) which is a platform for NM tools, very much like SunNet Manager and HP OpenView. I havn't played with this one, but it has a lot of nice features, from what I've seen in the brochures. You'll also want a pretty well equipped PC to run any of these on! 486 with at least 12MB RAM, disk for storage, etc. Good luck! --- Ty Kostan EMail: ty@desktalk.com Senior Staff Engineer Voice: (310) 323-5998 DeskTalk Systems, Inc.
