Well, I'm hoping to upgrade my ageing ARM3 based system to a StrongARM RiscPC within the next three months, and the thought struck me - how do you actually install Sibelius on a StrongARM RPC? You have no ARM6/7 card to put back in! According to Ian Beswick, who runs the Opus Mailing List, anyone wanting to do this will have to buy a StrongARM upgrade from Sibelius, which includes a StrongARM compatible installer. However, the Sibelius program itself is already SA compatible and mini upgrades can be downloaded free from the Opus web pages. So anyone who has .upgraded. to StrongARM can get these updates free and simply (?) put his 600/700 card back into install them. Anyone buying a StrongARM RPC has to buy an upgrade - but not a .program. upgrade, rather an .installer. upgrade! This does seem a little odd to me... > This is unacceptable in a professional product. Product upgrades used to be a real pain as you were left without your copy of Sibelius for several days as you had to send in your original disk, making the program unusable back in the days of the 'key disk' protection system. Thankfully things are nowhere near as bad as that anymore, but I agree that it can be a large problem to lose your copy of Sibelius due to corruption or whatever at a critical moment and then have to wait several days for a replacement. But likewise I realize why they do want some form of copy protection, especially on the full Sibelius 7. This piece of software costs going on for UKP 1000 (with VAT) and if people started passing copies around illegally the impact on Sibelius Software's business could be severe. The key disk system was a pain when it came to upgrades; the present system can be a nightmare if you lose Sibelius at a critical moment... perhaps (dare I say) they should look at using a dongle?
