-- All opinions expressed herein are currently under revision ========================================================== Antoon Pardon Brussels Free University Computing Centre ==========================================================

See "de Herziene Woordenlijst Nederlandse taal" for the official spelling. This list was made for both the Dutch and Belgian government,so even the Flemish should obey to it. Why sent a mailing in Dutch to an international newsgroup ? Anyway, I think I may have all your answers: In Holland ECD Computers is the company that imported >90% of all Acorn computers. I know they have done some trading in Belgium as well and possibly acted as an intermediate for your machine as wel. They are not particularly fond of repairing computers that they didnot sell, but if you combine it with an upgrade, they will probably do it. It is best to contact Andre van de Berg and explain him of the dealership problem. Worst thing may be that he gives you the Belgian dealer list. ECD Computers may be reached at the following addres: ECD Computers Business Park Zuidflank Patrijsweg 76 2289 EX Rijswijk Nederland phone ++31-70-3194343 fax ++31-70-3194963 e-mail ecd@euronet.nl If they won't do it, I can supply you with the addresses of two other Dutch Acorn dealrs, with smaller and less well supplied repairshops. However, you may also take any recent Acorn User and look for one of the U.K. based Acorn dealers offering repair-services. On average, the UK-based companies perform better, both time- and money-wise than the average Dutch PC-box-mover. For the older machines, hardly any spares are kept in stock by the dealers in Holland (i.e. it took 6 weeks to swap the motherboard of my A4 last year) Good luck ! -- Judocus J.J.Borm Email: j3bkjjm@xs4all.nl

See "de Herziene Woordenlijst Nederlandse taal" for the official spelling. This list was made for both the Dutch and Belgian government,so even the Flemish should obey to it. Why sent a mailing in Dutch to an international newsgroup ? [resists temptation to write in Dutch] And why use English? I could also point out some spelling errors in your own article, and probably in mine too - like in most articles on the net. Perhaps Antoon isn't even a native speaker of Dutch, or he hangs on to some arcane Flemish spelling. Let him. Of course, you're not the first to post this kind of comment so wie de schoen past, trekke hem aan: Strangely, I've seen native English speakers pointing out other people's spelling mistakes as flaws in argumentation. Perhaps they would like to continue that argument in, say, Norwegian to put them on a more equal footing with their opponent? Not speaking perfect English does not make a speaker's argument invalid. But this post wasn't too bad (see below). What really annoys me is the kind of article that quotes a whole article just to point out that ``that really should have been a `[A-Za-z]' because ...''. Please refrain from this kind of posting. It is usually incredibly uninformative, off-topic and rather boring too. So there. [extremely helpful and friendly answers to original questions snipped] Steven PS No prizes to be won for finding flaws in spelling, grammar or style in this article. Anyone attempting to do so will be forced to read Dutch literature out loud, thus ruining their throats.

The most impressive thing I've seen him do language-wise is to be asked by two Portugese visitors to Acorn's stand at CeBIT whether he was Brazilian (where they also speak Portugese, but with a slight accent). While he always seems to look suntanned I'm fairly sure that he isn't Brazilian... Mind you, I also remember Gordon Taylor rattling off and having a crowd around him at CeBIT like he normally does at any show - get closer and he is being Gordon Taylor in "fluent" German. Well I always assumed it was English, perhaps it was German all the time and I was doing him a disservice? -- Ian

>Good old polyglot Mike - not only does his software (Easiwriter / >Techwriter) cope with multiple languages - he does too. Shame on you Alastair, dragging my personal life into this. Living 9 years in Brasil '60 - '69 might have some bearing on this. > >Mind you, I also remember Gordon Taylor rattling off and having a crowd >around him at CeBIT like he normally does at any show - get closer and he is >being Gordon Taylor in "fluent" German. Still packing up after a road show?
