I for one want to thank both SCALA and John Chang for their CONTINUED support o
f both the Amiga platform, and those of us who use it professionally on a
regular basis. At a time when most developers were bailing out, SCALA came out
with MM400, a MAJOR upgrade of their already outstanding product. They've
always been ultra responsive, either on phone or right here in this forum, for
my requests for either information or help. It would be a great loss, to me,
to see their participation here dry up because of the comments of a few
cynics and pessimists. My response to pundits who predict the future with smug
cynicism, John, is to ignore them. They're not the ones who make change
happen; they view mistakes as failure, while the rest of us...well, Edison made
over 100 attempts at making the lightbulb before he got it right. A reporter
asked him how it felt to fail over 1000 times. Edison's astonished reply was
"What do you mean fail? We simply learned over a thousand ways not to make a
light bulb!" 'Nuff said. John, et. al., keep up the great work, and please
don't go away

Jim Wilde, running SCALA on a 1200, 4000, and CD32/SX-1 for classrooms, confere
nces, seminars, congressmen, and for economic and social development...I walk
the walk, not talk the talk.

It seems that if someone disagrees with what is going on, then they are
to be ignored? I am a registered Scala owner for the Amiga. I have
stated that I love the product and use it extensivley in my video work.
I appreciate how easy it is to use, yet how powerful it is. My concern
though is that after MM400 there might not be anymore support for the
Amiga. Yes, I have read the Amiga Report IRC. I have read Mr. Chang's
messages here. And they are very optimistic about the MM100 (and
knowing what they have done already with Scala, I the app must be a
'killer' product). I see nothing wrong with making products for other
platforms. They are in business to make money, and what platform has
the greatest potential. The PC. But there is this nagging feeling that
unless there is a PowerAmiga that is sold in large enough quantities,
there really wont be any more Amiga upgrades. Reading Mr. Chang's
messages said "if". That to me means "no" until those "if's" are met.
Right now, we have no idea what is going to happen to the Amiga. Sold
again. Mr. Chang says that my view is myopic. I tend to think that it
is realistic with the information that I have. I sincerely hope that I
am wrong, but until someone (Mr. Chang, Viscorp, AT) tell me
otherwise... And telling me that there are things that cant be said
about future upgrades doesnt help either. IF they were going to
continue upgraded the Amiga in it's present form, then say so. It will
go a long way in stopping all the 'doomsayers'.... including me.

Not going anywhere Jim. :) Thanks for the vote of confidence, support and
understanding. It is appreciated.

Personally, I did not imply nor state that. That is your conclusion. If it is.

Well, you'll just have to find out. I don't have the answer for you.
Frankly, I don't think anybody does. We'll have to see what VISCorp
plans for the platform and the market. Its simply too early to tell.

Well, I'm glad you read the IRC logs.

Now, wait a minute. First you say:

>I see nothing wrong with making products for other platforms. They

>The PC.

Then you say:

>But there is this nagging feeling that unless there is a PowerAmiga

If we are in the business to make money, is there any reason why we
should treat the Scala Amiga product business model differently?

Also, if you had read the IRC logs thoroughly, you would have ready that
we cannot add any new features to the existing source code, because one,
it is highly optimized and that adding any new features would require a
complete rewrite. Second, adding any new features to the existing source
code, could make the product unstable. This is one reason why we went
through the trouble of developing "Scala BackBone(tm)"!

If you want newer versions of our software, then obviously a market
must exist and at least has the potential of growth. That isn't happening
right now. You can't put the horse in front of the cart, unless somebody
is willing to pay for it. :)

Well, it seems you are going to have to move along without this knowledge,
like the rest of us, until VISCorp and/or Amiga Technology says otherwise.
