So I have got Oasis2 safely from cnam.fr, and have got it up and running...
well sort of. It looks like it is going to be very good , but here are my
first few problem reports with the usual disclaimer that its probably my
fault for not reading the instructions properly.
1) I dont have a host name, Im simply dickie@mistral.co.uk. I soon
discovered that if I leave the host line blank, news does not send. My
temporary solution is to give "mistral" as the entry in the host line and
"co.uk" as the entry for domain. Now the news seems to send OK. it does not
seem to be an ideal way of going about things though.
2) Under nos_pop3 and Oasis135, my mail simply arrived im my mailbox without
problem. When I send test posts to myself with oasis 2 it says "mail for
unknown user" when I retrieve it using pop3,and then I have to take the
given option to file it. This is a hassle, and I cant seem to work out why
this happens.
3) On my Falcon the screens seem to blank when I select windows sometimes.
Clicking in the window seems to restore the text. I remember a lot of
problems in the earlier Oasis with funny screen stuff. Is this more of the
same for Early Oasis2?
4) When I log on the viewer always pops up saying bad checksum IP
and I seem to be getting varios checksum reports going on, but nevertheless
it seems to be getting here. It all looks a bit frantic though.
5) I tried ftp on hensa, and discovered that if I click on the left hand
closer of the ftp directory screen, it disappears, and I cant seem to get it
to come back even though ftp is still active. "Show ftp" only brings up
another ftp log on screen. Also on the ftp directory window there were no
file dates as there are in mgftp for instance, those dates are useful to see
directories which have recently been updated, I have found.
Enough for now. Anybody got any ideas where Im going wrong, and any
solutions... meanwhile
Well done Phil and Dave.. Im sure those updates are already in the pipeline.
Richard
