I just bought an RD54-FA through the Internet, but while UPS was transporting
it, it changed itself into an RD54-D. ;-)
I was buying the -FA variant because I'm connecting it to a VAX 2000. So here
are my questions:
1) Will the -D variant work with a 2000? The cable looks right, but the
disk controller doesn't pass startup diagnostics when the disk is
connected.
2) What's the difference between the three connectors on the rear, J1
through J3? The cable fits all three.
3) What are the front panel buttons (aside from power)? Should they be in
or out? From the insignias, I'd guess they're "drive ok" and
"interface ok", but I'm not sure. Depending on which rear connector I
attach the cable to, they light up as green-on/orange-on,
green-off/orange-on, or green-on/orange-off.
I sure would appreciate some advice on this little beastie. Thanks.
