It has been through the immense help from lots of you here on the net
that I have actually made this ol' Vax Staion II work.  Thanks to you
all and the guys here at UH who also contributed.

Here's what is currently wrong:

I got the terminal working (just a text terminal on the serial port)
and with some expert help from our administrator at school got the
thing up.  At the >>> prompt we did b/2 then changed uafalternate to
1.  Then we changed the system password.  From there I did a set host
0 and logged out and in lots of times and everything worked fine.  I
even managed to make myself a user account (but didn't give myself
system privs...).  However, the problem arose after I did an "orderly
shutdown" and then powered off.  When I boot it now, my user account
is fine, but the system login doesn't work.  I cannot even go in
through uafalternate and rekludge it.

So, two questions and you can answer either or both:

How can I get the system account back up and running?

How can I reload VMS from the tape?  I do not yet have a manual of any
kind...
