Replace them with a smaller :number of people who have the ability to answer technical questions. :I, for one, have on many occasions declined to putrchase things soley :because I got annoyed with sales droids who were pushy and, or, were :lacking in technical knowlege. I don't like sales droids trying to :sell me things; I prefer to just be able to find out what is available :and make up my own mind based on prices and technical details. But who will provide the many fine lunches and dinners? :) You're making an assumption that the people with the most technical knowledge are in control of the purchasing power, or even particularly WANT that control. For that matter, you're making an assumption that so-called "technical people" would want to do sales! In many cases, this is NOT true. (Whether it should be true or not is a matter of opinion and debate -- this isn't the proper forum for that.) I think that the sales organizations ought to be flexible enough to deal with the customers and interests in their designated regions. A lot of sales outfits seem to want to target the schism as simply academic vs. corporate, but I think that's too simplistic these days. ...Mike -- Michael J.
