I've read about incompatibility problems with the SoundBlaster Audigy and chipsets with the VIA 686b southbridge. According to VIA's web site, the new KT266A chipset uses the VT8233 southbridge. I'll be buying a KT266A motherboard when they're available and would also like to get the Audigy. Does anyone know if there's a compatibility problem or is it too early to tell? I just made sure I had the latest mobo drivers before installing it. I may not have a problem using the Audigy with the KT266A board, but after doing some more research I've decided to go with the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for gaming and the Midiman Audiophile 2496 for my pro audio/MIDI recording. You're asking a good question... Since the not-too-perfect experiences from older SB Live! Platinum w. VIA-based motherboards (MSI 6330 and Abit KT7A) I'm also wary. After upgrading to AMD 760 / VIA 686B-based Abit KG7 motherboard, my problems with Live! card decreased very much. I can't yet tell if there are *any* crackles and pops etc. so familiar with KT133 and especially KT133A boards, but it *seems* the sound is now clean... Apparently, as it has been told elsewhere too, the problem isn't as much in VIA 686B southbridge as in certain combinations and implementations of 686B + certain northbridges (like KT133A's one). Personally, I'm not certain if I'm brave enough to try "all VIA" motherboard for some time now, no matter how fast it may be... Since this AMD/VIA combination of Abit seems to be both stable, more Sound-Blaster-friendly and fast enough, it's worth recommendation. T. Every review I've read on the KT266A so far has been very positive, but I haven't decided on a board yet. My last two were ASUS (P2B and A7V) and both ran very well. This time around I'll probably wait for the reviews. Jim A. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! (Yes, I'm still using Win98.) The KT266A is supposedly much more stable, so maybe the Audigy will work OK? It may all come down to which motherboard to get. http://www.tomshardware.com gives a glowing if somewhat one-sided review of the Audigy (the review doesn't even mention the problems with the earlier SB's.) I'll think I'll wait for the KT266A motherboard reviews before making a final decision.
