  I didn't say that you couldn't get some kind of return, just that
having a "no returns without receipt" policy is normal. In this case,
he wasn't dealing with this particular policy, but with the 30-day
one. And you'll notice that they offered him a return by store credit
(consistent with the customer service approach you describe). He's
just pissed because after five weeks he wants *cash* back, and they
won't give it to him. You do what you can to try to please the
customer, but eventually you have to start drawing lines. Their
approach in this situation was reasonable and accomodating -- the fact
that he's got something up his butt that makes him ornery isn't their
fault.
