Well, Leo. You get what you pay for. My undergraduate school's
academic computer dept purchased about 20 386DX systems from Dee One. My
boss, being the creative financer that he was, found Dee One to be the
lowest priced. The systems worked for the most part, but a few of them
were flakey. I wouldn't say that their stuff is horrible, but I've seen
better value for money other mail order places. If you are someone who
might be willing to fiddle to get things just right, you are OK. If you
are expecting a wonderful "OOBE," then I'd go elsewhere. I'm not sure about
their English speaking skills, either.

On a scale from 1 to 10, they got 3 (service after sale), 7 (technical know-how).
For comparison, Gateway got 5 (since you can't get thru the stupid phone-jaming
system, service after sale), Dell got 9 (almost perfect after sale), V Tech 9..

But, I did bought 3 PCs from them before, like 2 years ago, one by one, the first one
is good, second and 3rd got some mismatch, sent back, fixed.

Hope this helps.. btw, DON'T BUY FROM GALAXY COMPUTERS (I bought one from them, I swore
I will NEVER buy from them again -- it took them 4 times and 6 months to fix one tiny
prob...)

Hope this helps,

Weiin

Just a note in defense of Galaxy Computers;
In December 1993 I bought a 486dlc system from them. Besides being
cheap the system had everything I wanted. When the monitor was late in
arriving, I called and complained. After checking with ups Galaxy
called to say that the monitor had been broken in mid-shipment (this
was on Christmas eve day) and they would ship on out the following
week. I was irate. The magager offered to send the monitor out "next
day delivery USPS, or send me a non-interlaced low radiation monitor
two day delivery because it was questionable whether he could get it
to the post office in time. I opted for the non-interlaced monitor. I
recieved the monitor on time.
Bottom line..Galaxy was willing to do what it took to make me a
satisfied customer. One thing to remember when buying from companies
such as Galaxy and Dee One- If you are not computer literate and not
able to fine tune your own machine, stay away. Their tech support is
definately not on the same par as companies that sell their computers
for much more.

Good point (btw, I was the reason he start defending Galaxy Computers from VA).

Yes, I totally agree with you, but my original point was, Galaxy computers cost me
lots time and effort to get things straight (4 shipments over 6 months!). I spent
lots time on the phone and eventually their manager got afraid of me and won't
even come to the phone ("sorry, he is on another line, can I take a message please?").

Hehehe... yes, I eventually did resolve my dispute with them, but...

A couple of months ago I ordered a SCSI controller from them. On
placing the order I carefully verified with them that there was
a 30-day moneyback guarantee (sans shipping) in case of compatibility
problems.

It turned out that Murphy held sway, and I did have compatibility issues
with my motherboard for that particular SCSI card. I called them up
requesting a return. I was able to get through to Tech Support quite
promptly (except for the minor issue of it being a toll call). I
explained the situation to the Tech Support person; all he requested
of me was the motherboard brandname and my order number, and then he
promptly issued an RMA number for the return. I had my credit card
refunded in a matter of a couple of weeks; I did incur the back-and-forth
shipping charges, but that was the way the contract was structured in
the first place.

All in all I considered this a pleasant experience. They were courteous,
and fulfilled their part of the bargain completely. Your mileage might
vary, of course.
