Norton 3.2.1 and 9500 - Incompatible?

I just bought a powermac 9500 clone (Powerwave 604/132) and I cannot load
NUM 3.2.1 into the machine. Installation is always unsuccessful.
Furthermore, the Norton emergency disk will not boot the machine at all. I
haven't read or heard any discussion on this, but maybe I'm just out of
the loop. Anyone know anything about this? I have tried calling Symantec,
but they only have one phone line to answer the 52,000 calls they receive
per day, and their tech support staff consists of a single 81 year old
grandmother who only works part time. (At least that's what I suspect - I
have never been able to get through to them in the last 3 YEARS!!!)
Thanks a bunch!

    Steve -

For what it's worth, we have 3.2.1 on a genuine 9500/132, and it
installed without a hitch. As for the emergency disk, you have to make one
with Norton's Startup Disk Builder after installation, as the one included
will not work for the newer machines.... Catch-22.

Do you have another machine on which you could install NU, and then
copy it to your PowerWave over the network?

I don't know about the unable to install part. I'm not too surprised that
the Emergency Disk's System doesn't yet support Apple's latest products;
in time it probably will.

You could TRY replacing "Disk First Aid" on the "Disk Tools" disk with
Norton Disk Doctor; I think there were space problems when I tried this
with my 7500/100, but if it works that would be one solution.

For the Emergency Disk part, what I did with my 7500/100 is create a
floppy with Norton Disk Doctor and Disk First Aid on it. If/when I need
to fix my hard drive I boot from the CD-ROM (hold down 'c' key while
booting), then insert the floppy and run NDD or DFA from there.

You should have a bootable system CD-ROM that came with your computer.
Put the various parts of Norton you want on a floppy and boot from the
CD and run the programs from the floppy.

Norton tried to design their startup disk builder to work with future
system developments but I'm not surprised it doesn't work for everyone.
Exactly how should they write a program to be fully compatible with a
version of the MacOS not released until 2 years after the original program?

I have a PB5300c and want to use Speed Disk on it (version 3.2). Is it safe?
Thanks.

By providing their users with updates via their ftp site.

The Norton Emergency Disk 3.2.1 contains system 7.1 and of coures cannot
boot a machine that requires System 7.5.2.

You can build a suitable startup disk if you have a ZipDrive or SyQuest,
or Optical.

Just choose "other" for your system when asked.
