ZyXEL : How does one adjust DTE rate for incoming calls ?

Hi, I am using a ZyXEL 1496E+ as a dial-in modem into my Unix box. It took me quite a while, until people were able to log in, because the getty on my Unix machine (NeXT) is a bit brain dead (it can't detect the baud rate automatically). So I had to try all available baud rates until finally 38400 worked fine. But how come the ZyXEL initiates the communication with 38400 ? I never told it to do so and I don't know how to, either. I know about the AT&B0 setting, but that only locks the DTE rate and does not set it. And I also cannot set the register S20 manually ! Does anybody know how to set the DTE rate for incoming calls ? Or is there a better getty for the NeXT ? Thanks for any info, Ernst. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ernst Kloecker phone: ++49-30-6181635 e-mail: ernst@cs.tu-berlin.de -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getty is fine, this is what needs to be done: - Bit 3 of s38 should be set to 1 (i.e., ats38=8) - s18 should be set to the "getty/dte" speed you want to match (note: there are other values for different speeds) 2: 38400 3: 19200 7: 9600 Another useful setting is s40=1 (to disable throughtput averaging) Make sure you "ATW0" and "ATZ0" to make these changes permanent! --Felix
