Here are a couple of things to try:

    Plug your speakers so that you have front in the green and rear in the
black.   Then open your "Creative Surround Mixer" and the speaker controls.
Set your speakers to "4 speaker".   If you look to the right of the mixer
you should see a red " + " sign  about the "vol" control.  If you click on
that plus sign a box should open that says "Digital Output Only".  Make sure
that is Unchecked.  After you have that unchecked try the test again.  If
you still don't get any sound, go to Start > Find > Files & Folders you can
do a search for *.wav.  Do a search for this and double click on a file that
is over 70kb.  Let me know if the file appears to play or gives an error
message.  After you have done this I will need you to go into your device
manager and give me a listing of the IRQs being used by the system.  Also
let me know what kind of speakers you are using and where they are plugged
into.
