The only time I came across this problem was when I added a Soundblaster
Live next to my AWE64. I had two joystick ports and the joystick connected
to the Live card was "not connected". I disabled the AWE64 gameport using
Control panel>System etc and had no problem since then. I use Sidewinder
software 3.02 configured correctly. If that doesn't work, don't know what
will ...
