APPLYING GENETIC ALGORITHMS TO MOLECULAR
ARCHITECTURE PROBLEMS
Genetic algorithms are a global optimization technique
that has been successfully applied to a wide variety
of optimization problems. However, they tend to be very
slow and normally require problem specific modifications
to accelerate convergence to the global optimum.
This seminar will describe a number of extensions to the
basic genetic algorithm which considerably improved its
performance when applied to molecular architecture opti-
mization problems. These extensions included the use of
a local optimizer and the implementation of phenotype
crossover and mutation operators.
