There are several good places that I've tried. First, Ariana Afghan Restaurant on Spring St in Herndon, VA (near China King- a very good and inexpensive Chinese place). Panjshir Restaurant on Broad St (Route 7) in Falls Church, VA, 1/2 block east of West St. (near the W&OD trail crossing) and its sister place called Panjshir II on Maple Ave. (Rt 123) in Vienna, Va. In DC, there is Bamiyan, on M St in Georgetown. I have not eaten here yet. There is also Bamiyan II on King St in Old Town Alexandria, across from the City courthouse. I've eaten here a few years ago and it was quite good. Another good place is Kabul West in Bethesda, MD (can't remember the street name). I usually frequent Panjshir II and Ariana, only because they are close by my home. All in all, I really enjoy Afghan food, it's not too spicy (I'll go to a Thai place for that), and generally has quite alot of subtle flavors that I find mouth-watering. Try some cardomum (sp?) tea with your meal. The prices are very reasonable, 2 people can usually eat well for under $30. BTW, Ariana is the old name for Afghanistan. I have a housemate originally from Afghanistan, who says he likes Ariana and Panjshir (I and II) better than Bamiyan. -Steve- Any and all disclaimers apply.
