--> From: <OMARS@auvm.american.edu> --> Newsgroups: dc.dining --> Organization: The American University - University Computing Center --> --> Any opinions about Afghan food? --> Some people consider it as a good mix of mid-East and Indian. --> Any good restaurants in the area worthy of a visit? Yes! It seems to be a much more limited cuisine, but it's great stuff. They do a couple of wonderful dishes with pumpkin, which I guess resembles something that grows in Afghanistan. Try these: Kabul Caravan, on Wilson Blvd. just outside of Rosslyn -- NICE atmosphere (you're definitely not in Kansas any longer), and excellent food. It's generally strongly flavored, but not hot-spicy. Kabul West, on Cordell Avenue in Bethesda -- very westernized place, but the food is awfully good. Slightly pricier than Kabul Caravan. A teensy little place that's immediately next door to "Bangkok-Vientiane" on West Broad Street in Falls Church. Kind of a dive, but it has excellent food. Used to be cheap, unfortunately prices have normalized. Afghani dishes bear the kind of resemblance to Indian food that Vietnamese food does to Chinese -- clearly related, but not quite "right." The spices tend toward slightly heavier flavors, but there's fragrant rice and some yoghurt, plenty of garlic and good chicken. I'm VERY fond of Afghani food, and would love to hear of other places in the DC area. (Anybody willing to get together, maybe sometime in late February, for either Afgani food, or maybe some HOT Thai?) * Origin: 3 Point 14159 (1:109/70.4214)
