SS> From: ssnyder@sunai.er.usgs.gov (Steve Snyder) SS> I second Ed Rice's motion to explore DC gastronomically. That's easy for you and me to say... we're out here in Reston, culinary center of the universe. Sort of. That was once a major joke -- two Thai restaurants, a McDonalds and a Roy Rogers was all we had out here. These days, it's actually possible to eat very well -- or very expensively -- in and around Reston. There's a good place at the International Center, called "A Taste of the World" (or something like that), that's Thai or Chinese owned, but which features a different "specialty" cuisine each month. So each month, their basic menu has five or six dishes added from some new part of the world. I've been there for lunch a few times, and always eaten very well. VERY reasonable prices, just a little off the beaten track. And on the way up to Herndon, there's... Cathay (good Chinese), Etoya (great Japanese), Siam (great Thai), and The Tortilla Factory (best Mexican food in the DC area, or possibly east of the Mississippi), all in a mile or so of Elden Street. And scattered along the same stretch, Outback (Aussie-flavor steakhouse) and Le Peep (oily, huge breakfasts) and half a dozen other places. * Origin: 3 Point 14159 (1:109/70.4214)
