BTW, if I haven't said it before, there are more "unavoidable" accidents out there that I'd originally stated in our thread from years ago. It took someone someone coming to a complete stop and then accelerating into my car for me to truely grasp the ability of others to cause accidents. I gave them all credit for stupid, which is generally avoidable, but the sheer numbers that fit my definition of criminally neglegent is staggering. I doesn't help that my current roomate is a habitual red-light runner. He just flat doesn't pay atttention to the road and runs no less than one stale red a week and at least one orange light a day. And he thinks I'm a bad driver... Come to think of it, all of my friends of my age that don't race are poor drivers. There have been a few that complain about my driving, at which time I ask them to pay attention to my driving and note every law I break. Generally, there is only one. Then the next time I'm riding with them, I point out their incomplete stops, lack of signals, tailgating, speeding, red-light running, and so on. But then they claim that they can break all those safely. But they generally don't bring attention to my driving after I critique theirs. They are the people that have "unavoidable accidents" that they could have prevented if they were competent. Too bad it isn't possible to get a good estimate of the true numbers of these people in the general population. It would be nice if the driving standards were such that these weren't people that I'd have to share the road with, but that would take most of the drivers off the road, and they'd never let that go into effect.
